Summary

The CONNECT project was launched on 1st January 2004 to create a knowledge network and to establish a Knowledge Portal in the domain of flexible transport. This has allowed a wide range of potential users both to access information they seek through a single portal and to encounter concepts and knowledge of which they were not previously aware.

The CONNECT consortium brings together leading experts in Europe in the domain of flexible transport, and especially in the domain of Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) which is supported by Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

The scope of this project is Flexible Transport Services (FTS).

This covers all forms of Intermediate Transport which may be classified as flexible and collective. One example is DRT which provides transport services “on demand” from passengers and where fleets of vehicles are scheduled to pick up and drop off people in accordance with their needs.
