Abstract

This paper describes part of the research conducted in the European Telematics Application Program project DACCORD (Development and Application of Co-ordinated Control of Corridors, TR 1017) and is concerned with co-ordinated and integrated control of inter-urban motorway networks. The efforts reported here were conducted within workpackage 6 of DACCORD. The first results from the co-ordinated ramp metering control applied to a Dutch motorway in Amsterdam are reported here, along with simulation results from the motorway-to-motorway control strategy that is going to be applied in a French motorway. A new co-ordinated ramp metering control strategy, with a conceptual problem set-up for integrated control, together with a numerical algorithm for generic solutions of integrated and co-ordinated control problems are also presented.
