ABSTRACT

ALINEA, a local feedback ramp metering strategy, has experienced multiple field applications while more applications are planned in several European countries. This article presents the main features of ALINEA and summarizes the field results achieved to date both at a single and at multiple ramps of the Boulevard Pιriphιrique in Paris and of the A10 West motorway in Amsterdam. The reported results indicate easy application, flexibility, and high efficiency of ALINEA. Planned future implementations are briefly outlined.

Key Words: Ramp Metering, Field Implementation, ALINEA Strategy.
